So rumor has it that the Main Event for this years +WWE Royal Rumble will be for the Universal Championship, and will feature Brock Lesnar challenging for the Championship. And of course can be seen on the +WWE Network
If that is the case lets look at what will build to such an event.
Brock will beat Randy Orton at Summer Slam, and we wont hear much out of him until its time for the Rumble, probably announced well in advance that the Champion at that time will face the Beat Incarnate at the event. If he is to be the #1 contender, loosing to Orton should not happen at least a clean win by Orton.
The best speculation, who will be his opponent. As of now Finn Balor or Seth Rollins will have the honor.
Rollins would make for the ideal 1st Universal Champion, he is the total package for a pro wrestler now days and has the brass behind him. We have seen the Beast vs Rollins, and I would love to see it again. This would also allow for Lesnar to win the title and go on to Wrestlemania as Champion and the title can gain a great amount of prestige behind it as well. Brock is also coming off the +UFC - Ultimate Fighting Championship win so the iron is hot so to speak. Allowing him to be Champ through Mania will allow for someone special to have a HUGE Wrestlemania moment by conquering the Beast and winning the belt.
Balor is whom most would like to see as the first Universal Champion. The brass is high on him as well, and are looking to him as the future of the company. Lets say he beats Rollins, wins Championship and heads into the Rumble against Brock, what then? Do they let him take the Beast out? Ruining all shots at a truly historic and remarkable moment at Wrestlemania? Or do they let Brock beat / destroy Balor and have him return with the Club in tow to slay the beast?
Or will it be someone else entirely? There is plenty of time between Summer Slam and the Royal Rumble. Only time will tell, as we know everything can change over night, and this is just speculation!
